Course Description

DIPLOMA IN LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

The Diploma in Leadership Development is a three-year post-secondary programme offered via distance and online learning by ICOF Global University College. Targeted at aspiring and current leaders in public, private, community, and faith-based sectors, it employs flexible formats like asynchronous e-learning modules, live virtual sessions, digital portfolios, and field-based projects to accommodate working professionals and remote learners across Zambia. The programme addresses national imperatives under the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP), fostering capable leaders to drive governance reforms, economic diversification, and inclusive growth in line with Vision 2030.

Effective leadership remains pivotal for Zambia's progress amid challenges such as economic volatility, youth disempowerment, climate vulnerabilities, and institutional weaknesses, yet formal training opportunities are limited for those outside urban centers due to time, travel, and financial constraints. With a burgeoning youth population and demands for decentralized leadership in districts, cooperatives, and SMEs, there is a pressing need for scalable programmes that build on foundational skills over an extended period. This three-year distance Diploma meets Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) diploma benchmarks, integrates indigenous African leadership philosophies, and advances Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), ensuring progressive skill-building for sustainable impact in Zambia's diverse contexts.

Upon completion, graduates are expected to:

  • Articulate leadership frameworks (e.g., transformational, adaptive, and distributed models) contextualized to Zambian socio-political realities.
  • Assess organizational culture, power dynamics, and policy influences on leadership effectiveness.
  • Formulate and execute strategic plans, including risk management and resource mobilization via digital platforms.
  • Facilitate team development, negotiation, and change initiatives in multicultural environments.
  • Apply coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluation techniques for sustained growth.
  • Exemplify ethical leadership rooted in Ubuntu, integrity, and social accountability.
  • Champion diversity, sustainability, and community-oriented decision-making.
  • Design action research projects to evaluate leadership interventions and recommend scalable solutions.
